These book recommendations are based on books I bought and I enjoyed, you might not observe every book useful for your purposes, but this is what I wish I found when I started learning nearly the subject. It is non a complete literature review on the subject, but this will be a very good starting signal for your learning journey.
There have not been a lot of English books written on the subject field of illumination, especially not about the practical aspects of paintings or advice on pattern creation, but these are a good starting point. There is not a perfect volume withal, so you will take to gather information from various books.
Books about Islamic Illumination:
Islamic Fine art of Illumination, Sama Onet
This could exist the only book that gives you a preview of Islamic illumination and it includes pretty pictures. Part three is the nigh useful because of the motifs it includes. Part five will help you pattern your own pattern with. It is nevertheless very brief and I don't call up you can only learn this fine art from this one book, but information technology is a good outset and it highlights some mutual Turkish Motifs. The publisher's access to Islamic and Turkish Art museum is as well bang-up because information technology includes lots of good images. I wish it was twice as long!

It includes great photos and it feels like every aspect of the Quran has been studied, which is not bad. I recommend it every bit rich source of imagery and information, simply it'due south one of the pricier ones.
